Rhythm II Rhythm II

1984

5” x 4”

Reflection hologram

Provenance: John Brown Collection

"This Hologram was made during the period I enjoyed employing Mike Medora at Laser Picture Studio. His father was a sculptor and Rhythm II is the maquette of a much larger sculpture his father produced. I was making 4x5" display holograms for galleries like Light Fantastic Parallax and AH Prismatics at the time. Mike offered this as an additional image we could master using the split beam (H1/H2) process which he was unfamiliar with but wished to learn, having come from an exclusively Denisyuk holography establishment previously. Rhythm II is a beautiful shape and perfect colour to reproduce with pyrochrome chemistry. Shortly after this we started to produce all the holograms on film. Control of beam ratios in the copy process enabled very bright film copies. I still don't know why film is can be brighter than plates. Mike was persistent and brilliant with hologram developer."

An Invitation

The Jonathan Ross Hologram Collection website has been running for fifteen years so we decided it was time for a new look.

The new format has scope for lots more material so I would like to invite all the holographers whose work is featured here to submit background information, stories and images to supplement those I have provided. That way we can work together to make this the best resource on holographic imaging to be found on the web.

About the Collection

The Jonathan Ross Hologram Collection, based in London, UK, is one of the largest resources in the world for creative, display and commercial holography.

A number of touring exhibitions, containing work from the collection, have been presented in outstanding museums and galleries both within the UK and abroad. Information about new acquisitions and exhibitions is added here on a regular basis.
