Jim McIntyre, modelmaker and holographic artist comments

Jim McIntyre, modelmaker and holographic artist comments:

There was a project with Applied Holographics (this went on for a couple of years from about 1987, 1988, but not much later than 1990)

to produce commercial images for them to manufacture with their Holocopier machine. Most images were 8 x 10".

Dominic Welby and Peter Miller at Laser Light Works designed and mastered some images at their studio using a Krypton, and possibly prepared some of the sub-masters. I produced some of the models that were shot by them (Clowns and seesaw). I think that Chris Lambert might also have produced some of the images or sub-masters.

A large number of masters and one-off example transfers were made at Holoscan in Hampshire where I helped to shoot them with Graham Tunnadine and Chris Mead, I also produced the models for the "Leopard Spots" and the "Ghosts and Tower/Castle" and a few others at Holoscan which I don't see in the thumbnails. I think Graham Tunnadine produced the "Fortune Teller".

The project was shelved by Applied, possibly due to technical problems

An Invitation

The Jonathan Ross Hologram Collection website has been running for fifteen years so we decided it was time for a new look.

The new format has scope for lots more material so I would like to invite all the holographers whose work is featured here to submit background information, stories and images to supplement those I have provided. That way we can work together to make this the best resource on holographic imaging to be found on the web.

About the Collection

The Jonathan Ross Hologram Collection, based in London, UK, is one of the largest resources in the world for creative, display and commercial holography.

A number of touring exhibitions, containing work from the collection, have been presented in outstanding museums and galleries both within the UK and abroad. Information about new acquisitions and exhibitions is added here on a regular basis.
