Since 2013 August Muth and Dora Tass have been working on a joint project which consists of a paradoxical assemblage of holographic typewriters, leaning against an issue of the French magazine "Les Nouvelles Littéraires, artistiques et scientifiques". The bizarre juxtaposition of these objects is ironically re-proposed as "documents in a Surreal~Dada museum.”

The collaboration is an on-going work-in-progress, and Jonathan Ross is thrilled to be presenting some holograms from their very first series in this exhibition at Gallery 286.

As August Muth says: "When observing a hologram the viewer encounters a perceptual doorway. Stepping through that doorway into a tactile three-dimensional experience comprised of no material substance, an opportunity emerges. This opportunity is a choice to transform obsolete ideas and perceptions of reality".

About the Artists

For more than thirty years, August Muth has been an internationally exhibiting artist and pioneer in the exploration of light. He began his studies of art and physics at the University of New Mexico in 1974. From 1975 to 1978, he attended the University of Houston and the University of Texas at Austin to continue his studies.  After an inspiring visit to New York City in 1978, he left Texas and moved to New York. In 1980, Muth began working with holographic processes at New York’s Museum Of Holography. After seven years in Colorado, Muth’s studio was moved to Santa Fe and expanded to accommodate more ambitious projects.

Dora Tass, who has a Master of Arts degree in Humanities from "La Sapienza" University of Rome, has been working with with holography since 2006. Her holographic artworks have been presented at the 54 Venice Biennale, Italian Pavillion, MIT Musem( 2012), and at Bonhams A Contemporary Edge , London 2014.
